about the tours

On January 30th participants in the symposium will be visiting schools and classrooms all over the Santa Rosa School District to get a first-hand look at the journey schools, leaders, educators, and students have been on the past few years. 

Please review the tour options detailed in the TOUR GUIDE below; note that each tour will stop at two schools. Submit your 1st and 2nd choice of tours in the SIGN UP FORM at the bottom of the page. 

 

ABOUT THE SANTA ROSA STEAM INITIATIVE, INNOVATE!

Santa Rosa County Schools is a medium size, rural/suburban school district in the panhandle of Florida with 35 schools, serving over 26,000 students. As one of the highest performing districts in the state, that has been historically one of the lowest funded, Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick has a bold vision for leveraging STEAM to transform the culture of teaching and learning. 

The district's STEAM Initiative, INNOVATE!, is a 5-year strategic initiative based on Discovery Education STEM Leader Corps transformational professional development model.

Tour 1

Bennett C. Russell Elementary

A Title I school serving Pre-K through Fifth grade students with nearly two-thirds of students qualifying as economically disadvantaged. In 2017, the school received a “B” grade from the Florida Department of Education and is proud to be recognized as a community of learners that is exceeding expectations.

The school is in YEAR THREE of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!

 

 

Oriole Beach Elementary

A Florida Blue Ribbon School housing students in grades Pre-K through Fifth grade with a mission to prepare students for success by providing a superior, relevant education. In 2017, the school was recognized as a Five Star School for community Involvement and the Florida Department of Education awarded the school an “A” grade, which it has maintained for over a decade and a half.

The school is in YEAR THREE of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!


TOUR 2

HollEy Navarre Primary

A Five Star School recognized by the Florida Department of Education for their community involvement, the school houses approximately 900 students in Kindergarten through Second grade, with over 15 classrooms in each grade level. The school has been designated Title I with approximately 50% of students being designated economically disadvantaged. Holly Navarre Primary endeavors to be a child-centered school that strives to develop a strong academic foundation necessary for lifelong learning.

 The school is in YEAR THREE of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!

 

HollEy Navarre Intermediate

A school for students in Third grade through Fifth grade with the goal to provide a learning environment more technology-rich, focused on problem-solving, and project-driven to mirror the demands of a global society. The school is recognized as having Title I status with approximately 50% of students being designated economically disadvantaged. They received a “B” grade from the Florida Department of Education for academics in 2017.

The school is in YEAR THREE of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!


TOUR 3

Woodlawn Beach Middle School

Opened in 2001, this school of approximately 1000 students in grades 6-8 has consistently received an “A” school rating from the Florida Department of Education for academics since its opening. With a large military presence and significant community involvement, the school received the “Golden School Award” for volunteer hours being double that of school enrollment.  The school mission promotes academic growth, inspiring character, developing problem solvers, and empowering heroes.

The school is in YEAR TWO of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!

 

Avalon Middle School

Serves a growing suburban population with students in grades 6-8, 54% of which are designated economically disadvantaged. In 2017, the school showed large academic growth and earned an “A” grade from the Florida Department of Education, the first time in multiple years, and boasts both robotics and STEAM clubs. 

The school is in YEAR TWO of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!


TOUR 4

Gulf Breeze Middle

A school of approximately 900 students in grades 6-8, it has been rated an “A” school by the Florida Department of Education since its inception. The school is designated a Five Star School with a very active community and is nationally recognized for its music program. The school exemplifies the importance of the arts in STEAM as it continues to strive to produce students who are excited about the challenges of tomorrow.

The school is in YEAR TWO of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!

 

Gulf Breeze Elementary

Serving over 800 students in grades Pre-k through Fifth grade. A higher social economic status section of Santa Rosa County, the school focuses on academics designed to challenge students while maintaining a student-centered environment that encourages the development of the total child. The school has an active community, earning the Five Star School Award for community involvement which has supported the earning of an “A” grade by the Florida Department of Education.

TOUR 5

Navarre High School

With an enrollment of almost 2,200 students, Navarre High School is the largest high school in Santa Rosa County as well as the most ethnically diverse. The school is situated between two military facilities and has a large volume of students and faculty transferring into and out of the area from all over the country and the world.  The school has a 87% graduation rate and earned a “B” grade by the Florida Department of Education in 2017.

The school is in YEAR ONE of the district's STEAM initiative, INNOVATE!

 

HollEy Navarre Middle

This middle school with approximately 1,000 students in grades 6-8 has consistently earned a “A” grade from the Florida Department of Education. Being the most ethnically diverse middle school in Santa Rosa County, students have a multitude of opportunities to build the skills necessary to compete both academically and technologically in the 21st century global community, including Digital Information Technology and an expanded Industry Certification Program.

FAQs

  • Tours are scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th, with buses departing at 9 AM
  • Tour buses will pick up and drop off at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Hotel 
  • A boxed lunch will be provided during the school visits
  • You will receive your final bus assignment onsite.  The events team will try to place you in one of your two preferred tours, but if there is overwhelming demand your first choices will not be guaranteed. If you do not provide a preferred option, you will be assigned a tour.
