This two-day event hosted by Discovery Education and the Lancaster County School District will focus on how to create a shared STEM vision, develop educators and administrators, and cultivate inquiry-based, transdisciplinary instruction to prepare students for their future.
Jonathan Phipps, Ph.D.
Lancaster County School District
Dr. Jonathan Phipps is the superintendent of Lancaster County School District in Lancaster, South Carolina. Jonathan began as a teacher at Barr Street Middle School in fall 1994 and he moved up the administrative ladder in 2001 when he was chosen to serve as assistant principal at Indian Land Elementary and Middle School. He spent 19 years as a Lancaster County educator before becoming superintendent of Abbeville School District in 2014. In 2018, Jonathan returned to Lancaster. Jonathan holds a Ph.D. and an Ed.S. in Leadership in Education Administration from Capella University.
Instructional Technology Specialist
Lancaster County School District
Elizabeth Bryant is the Instructional Specialist for Technology at Lancaster County Schools. Before that, she was the Media Specialist at Indian Land High School in Lancaster County for twelve years. Elizabeth transitioned to the district office in 2017, where she currently supports twenty tech coaches through their 1:1 Chromebook initiative and twenty-five school librarians.
Robert Corbin, Ph.D.
Director, Global STEM Initiatives
Dr. Robert Corbin is a doctor of philosophy and national board-certified science teacher serving as Director of Global STEM Initiatives for Discovery Education. Robert previously served as VP of learning experiences at the Discovery Place Science Center in Charlotte, NC. He is a North Carolina Science Leadership fellow, associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and adjunct professor at Wingate University.
Director, STEM Implementation
Stephanie Hathaway is the Director of STEM Implementation for Discovery Education. Stephanie previously served as an Elementary Science Specialist and teacher for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV, and was the founding director of the William McCool Science Center, housed on the campus of Frank Lamping Elementary school, serving all of Clark County School District. She received the Milken National Educator Award in 2006 for her work with students and the Las Vegas community. Stephanie also served as the Director of Education at the Discovery Place Science Center in Charlotte, NC, where she oversaw all educational initiatives and served as founding director of the Bank of America STEM Center for Professional Development, a professional development center serving teachers and administrators across the southeast region. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction.
Cindy Moss, Ph.D.
Vice President, Global STEM Initiatives
Dr. Cindy Moss is the VP of Global STEM for Discovery Education. She travels the world speaking with companies, nonprofits, school districts and governments about transforming teaching and learning with STEM. Prior to joining Discovery, Dr. Moss taught high school biology, chemistry and anatomy in Syracuse NY and Charlotte NC for 20 years. She also served as the Director of PreK-12 STEM for the 145,000 students, 11,000 teachers in 189 buildings in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte NC. She was named 1 of the 100 Women Leaders in STEM by STEM Connector and 1 of 100 Women of Diversity in STEM by Diversity Matters.
Vice President, Learning Communities & Innovation
Lance Rougeux started his career as a teacher in the School District of Philadelphia and is the co-founder of the Purple Feet Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on helping underserved students think about their futures. Lance serves as GM of Discovery Education Streaming and VP of Learning Communities. He holds master’s degrees in educational leadership and technology in education from Villanova University and Harvard University, respectively, and is an adjunct faculty member at Wilkes University.
